Ximagic Denoiser plugin - free and ambitious

Postby lutz » Sat 30 Jan 2010 02:41

I just came across this Ximagic Denoiser plugin (currently Windows only; MAC version is planned):

This Denoiser is definitely something for people with time for some fiddling with 7 different denoising algorithms. I will need some time to test it. The examples on the webpage look very good however - and it is freeware.

The author also offers similarly comprehensive freeware Dithering and Quantization plugins.

I have long used Noise Ninja, http://www.picturecode.com, which runs on both Mac and Windows. Costs US$34-$45. You can get it as a plugin or as a standalone.

Extremely flexible and very, very good.

On Mac, the latest "Intel only" CS3/4, Elements 7 version runs fine as a plugin on PL in 32 bit mode (not Rosetta).

The PPC version runs fine on PL in 32 bit + Rosetta mode.

Cheers, Geoff

I, too, recommend this plugin for noise removal. I purchased Noise Ninja about a year ago, running the 32-bit plugin and the standalone on my Vista system PC. After I switched to Windows 7 64-bit, I discovered my license allowed me to download the 64-bit version of the plug-in. Thus I can run it in PL 64. Lots of fine-tuning available. I'm very happy with it!

The free Ximagic denoiser should now run also as a 64-bit plugin in Photoline.

I have not tied it myself as I am still running XP. Hopefully the 64bit environment can speed up this supernifty plugin a bit.

The best thing about this plugin is for me the "equalized difference preview" which shows one nicely which noise and information one is removing from the image.
