Alpha to selection

Beitrag von Pierre »

I've searched on the forum, but I've not found :
How to do an "alpha to selection" (Gimp) for layers that selects only the image in the layer and not the entire layer ?

I recall that it was possible to load up the luminance values of a mask or image with a quick key combo. I had to load up a layer mask's white/black channel as selection today, and I can't seem to find that option anymore? I distinctly remember it was possible in an earlier version to load up a selection based on luminance values... :?:

I don't have PL here, but there's a menu command – layer mask -> apply to mask, I think. You can assign a key combo to it. Or shift-click on the preview icon in the layer panel.

Cheers

Weird, today it is working again for me: <ctrl> click on a layer to load up transparency as a selection/lasso, <shift>-click to load up the values as a selection/lasso.

I use it all the time intuitively, and the other day the shift key would not allow me to load up selections based on value. That, or I was out of it ;-)

by the way, wonder, did you ever find an alternative to the Un-Muliply plugin ?

On beta releases, there it comes with "Color to transparency" option.
Also there is "replace color" function but can't work on weak contrasts.

The "color to transparency" adjustment layer is the response of the Hubers to that plugin. Works better than the plugin, and offers much more control. I use it quite often. Because it is an adjustment layer, it is very simple to stack it for different colours.

The only other option I know of, is the unmultiply black filter in FilterForge (which, I believe, was created by the same author of the original plugin).
https://www.filterforge.com/filters/11369.html

But Photoline's color to transparency is really much nicer and more controllable. And it works for any colour.
