Export a selection in PL?

Is there a way to Export only a selected object or layer? Most other graphic apps give you that option in the Export dialogue. I know I can export a cropped area, but sometimes it would be better to be able to simply export a selection. Thanks!

Yes: Layer -> Management -> Save layer. You can choose the file type, and multiple selected layers will get a number.

To export a selection, I usually copy the selection and use Edit -> Paste as document, then just save/export that document. You can use Edit -> Merged Copy to get a flattened down version of what's visible inside the selection.
