If the USM layer is in a draw isolated group as it currently is, shouldn't it only operate on layers beneath it, and deliver any mods it makes to the group's top layer, so, presumably that is what is happening. Presumably you could also sharpen the whole image ie put the USM layer outside the group but I suppose there is a sort of logical consistency in keeping the USM in the HF group since it is a HF feature that is being sharpened.
