Please offer 144 pixels as a choice in tool settings

Beitrag von greenmorpher »

I have written about this before. It would be nice if 144 resolution could be offered as the next step up from 72 rather than 150. But leave in 150 if you wish, but please give us 144. Handy for web work to which PL is so well adapted in other ways.

Geoff can you use Layer/Scale Layer. Select 'Normal' then 144 in the dpi.

No, not what I want.

I want it in all the little menus for resizing and whatnot.

72 > 144 > …

Why is 150 offered?

150 is a common size for many functions. Why 150? No idea but it's not a result of the bit/byte scenario.
Why is an American gallon 3.8 litres? One of those historical/hysterical hiccups.

Oh yeah. If you really want a look at the bizarre hysterical/historical stuff, look up the definition of "point (typography)"!

When I was learning typography (when dinosaurs roamed the Earth), a point was slightly smaller than 1/72 of an inch. Now, desktop publishing has standardized it as exactly 1/72....

Yes, I think it can be eeeeeasily done....

Heh, heh -- or possibly 0.352777777777778 mm. The hysteria in accepting the 1/72 standard was wonderful, wasn't it, given the history of the point and the international variations contemporary with the advent of DTP.

Yes, I understand that 150 was half of 300 which was the standard for the first laser printers (or at least, the first ones I knew and used, the Apple Laserwriter, later upgraded (gasp, the air is thin at this stratospheric level) to the Laserwriter Plus with extra fonts!) so the question really goes back to Canon (who made the laserwriter engines). 300 dpi? Why???? :P

Wouldn't have been easier if bits n bytes had been metric !!!!!!

Then again over 300 million Americans are still happy with the good old Imperial system. Albeit modified for their own use! Now don't get me started on their use of the English language. That's enough to put some colour, oops, color, in my face.

Sighhhhhhhh.

Make that 299,999,999 Americans.

I lived in Canada for a couple of years, so I had to deal with the metric system on a daily basis. Compared to the Imperial system, the metric system is better for some measurements, much worse for some measurements (tire pressure, home electrical usage), and neither better nor worse for the vast majority of uses.

The one area I really, really like the metric system is for length measurements. Using Imperial fractions is insane compared to metric decimals, and the metric system of paper sizing is superb!
