Colour change.

Beitrag von Jinx »

Hello,

I have this image of a book resting on a white/grey blanket (Image 01).

I would like to change the colour of the White/Grey blanket to blue (or possibly another colour?).

I have tried various different ways of changing the colour of the blanket with no luck. It doesn’t matter what I do, the highlights and shadows of the blanket always take on a ‘shade’ of the colour which I am trying to change the blanket to (Image 02). Obviously this doesn’t look realistic.

Does anyone know how I can change the colour of the white/grey blanket to blue, so that the blanket looks like a real blue blanket?

Thanks in advance.

IMHO the shadows should take on the new color.
Doesn't extracting the book and multiplying the blanket with the new color work?

It is near impossible to emulate real color "look and feel" with plain grayscale source in single click. Colored objects in real life are never brightness-based plain uniform colored. They bounce different colors from different parts depending of complicated material physical properties and depending of surrounding objects.

You can try to apply Hue/Saturation with "Colorize" option turned ON.
Or try to create solid color layer, play with different blending modes combined with opacity.
Also try to separate (or manually paint) shadows and highlights and add slightly different color tints to them to emulate real life color randomness.

• Draw a curve around the book
• Convert the vector layer to a selection (right click, convert layer to lasso)
• Invert the mask (menu -> tool -> mask -> invert mask)
• Copy the selection/mask
• Paste as new layer
• Fill the layer mask with the desired color (with the bucket)
• Adjust the layer intensity in the layer box to around 50% or your desired effect
• Done

Save as a *.PLD file so you can change the color at a later time

Can't attach the PLD because it is too large
