-Create the vector
-Open the dropdown for the foreground color ad choose a gradient
-Switch to the vector point tool (key "V")
Another not so obvious trick to save memory is to create a mask from a virtual layer. Useful for luminance masks.
-Create the virtual layer
-Add the curves to it as a child layer. Or Threshold or any other Filter you find useful, or add none at all.
-Then add the adjustment to the layer itself.
You can even take this farther when you first group the virtual duplicate with nothing, then do all these tasks for the group. This way you can add other layers to the group for more effects.
