You keep using that word: "arcane" - as if web features are mysterious, secret, and only understood by few users. And that these are niche features to have - I disagree wholeheartedly. We do not live twenty years ago, but in a time when screen graphics production has become incredibly important and relevant - perhaps more so than print production.
That is the underlying reason why Adobe is adding similar features to Photoshop, not because they've run out of ideas. Many Photoshop users were complaining in rather loud voices about Photoshop's lacking web and screen export functions. Which is why Adobe decided to add them. Ignore these voices, and you risk being left behind as an image editor.
Same for Photoline - it could attract many new users by adding a simple colour reduction adjustment layer. I completely understand why you do not see the usefulness of these options, because you seemingly do not work in an area that would benefit directly from such a feature (which would be quite ground-breaking, btw).
And yes, I would like to see other image editing features. I do not compare Photoline to Elements, but Photoshop without the fluffy 3d and video editing components (Photoshop standard ed.).
I am just saying that Photoline would be an incredibly attractive proposition to professionals working in screen design, mobile and web when one or two things like the colour reduction adjustment layer, and a way to have re-usable symbols (which would complement PL's DTP functionality as well), were to be implemented.
Yes, there are things I would like to see implemented on the image editing side as well - but that does not mean PL should completely disregard what is going on in related industries. For example, I am incredibly happy the newest beta introduced spot colours and overprint functionality, as well as document colours and tints! Initially they may not look very interesting to photographers, but it allows them to add a varnish or metallic finishing to their prints easily now, further expanding the array of possible quality printing options.
Is there a way to generate dither patterns?
