PL handles transparency has bug

Do like this.
1. Create a image set background transparent and set use transparent enable.
we get a transparent layer. all the pixel's RGBA = 0,0,0,0
2. Group the layer itself
we get a group with a layer
there is something errors occur:
The group's RGBA = 255,255,255,0, But the thumbnail of the group looks transparent
The pixel's RGBA of sub layer(the original image) equal 0,0,0,0
3. Ungroup the group, all restore to original state.
but not all of things
the pixel's color RGBA = 0,0,0,0 and the thumbnail is transparent
But the image display as white not transparent.
And you can't make the image looks like transparent any more, it's white backgroud even you delete the original layer.

If you will further spam the forum with words like "Error" and "Bug" for things you don't understand, you will be banned from here.

There's document mode, and there's picture mode.

Picture mode:
The background layer is a bitmap that determines color space, size and everything of the whole picture. That's why it cannot be moved.
That's what you started with. Any opened jpg will start like this, it's the usual way.

Document mode:
Like in a layout program, there's a "sheet of paper" in the background that determines everything. All layers are only objects that can be moved on it.
It's painted with a 3D border.
That's where you ended.

In the moment you put the background layer into the group, there was no bitmap at the bottom layer anymore.
in that moment PL switched to document mode and created that "sheet of paper".
The default paper color is white, just as you need it for printing. That's why the transparency of the layer is still there, but still you see white.

You could change the paper color with the attributes dialog and make it transparent, but most of the time white is more useful.

thanks, but I still something understand.

The Picture mode can convert automaticly when the backgroud layer is not image layer, it's seem to convert to Document with white backgroud.

But I try below steps, when automatic convert from Picture mode to Document mode, the document's backgroud is transparent, Why?

1. open a jpg file
2. create a image layer, and drag the image layer to layer list's bottom to make it become backgroud.
3. group the jpg image layer itself
4. delete the backgroud image layer, Picutre mode automatic convert to Document mode, but this time the document's backgroud is transparent.

Who controls the background when convert picture mode to document mode ?

Hi jw2004

Seems you're also like me. Obsessive to understand all reactions and behaviours of a software but;
PL is seriously loaded software, if you want to discover "ALL", try and see is not the way. Try like me.

I opened the user guide and PL in 2 screens and read all with testing nearly half of functions. It took all my nights of one week but now have no pain.
