Perhaps a simple right-mouse click with an "edit original file" entry? In Photoshop a smart object layer is opened with either a double-click or right-mouse click and a menu item. Next a quick warning dialog with choices that the file will either be opened in a new document window or opened in the original application controlled by the operating systems settings), with an option to cancel).Martin Huber hat geschrieben:Yes, there needs to be a way to edit the placed file, though I currently don't know what's the best way to allow this.Herbert123 hat geschrieben:One small suggestion: it would be handy to be able to double-click the placeholder layer so that it opens the actual file in Photoline, or an "edit file" option somewhere.

One more thing I noticed with placeholder layers (and something that bothered me for a long time now with vector layers): when you select the placeholder layer, it can be extremely useful to be able to draw a lasso, and then add a layer mask with "create from mask".
But this will not work with a placeholder layer, because the lasso tool is removed from the tools palette, and whilst in "vector" mode there is no way to create a lasso.
The only way to fix this currently is to select a bitmap layer (or if one is not available, create a temporary one), then draw the lasso, then create the layer mask, and base it on the mask. Then you have to drag this layer mask to the placeholder layer (or vector layer).
I think you will agree that this is a very long-winded cumbersome method to add a layer mask based on a lasso. It also affects text layers.
With adjustment layers it becomes even more problematic: create a lasso, then select the placeholder/vector/text layer: add an adjustment layer. the mask is not applied to that adjustment layer. With a bitmap layer that lasso will be used for the adjustment layer's layer mask.
So to add the same layer mask, we once again have to first create one for a bitmap layer, then drag it on top of the placeholder/vector/text layer.
To solve these inconsistencies, I think the lasso tool ought to be available at all times, and applicable to all types of layers?
Would it be at all possible to keep the lasso tool available for all layer types?
