Jpeg2000 also too slow format. But it could be potentially improved. For example Cineform Codec use simple Huffman compression and so with 10% larger file size got 10x faster speed than original JPEG2000, as explained in this video https://youtu.be/IJ_uo-x7Dc0?t=1652

I don't know, maybe it is a bug with EXR compression.
- Open something like 26mp 16-bit TIFF image in PhotoLine
- Export to EXR with PIZ compression (save time about 1 second)
- Open that EXR in PhotoLine
- Save As PLD (save time about 70 seconds)
- Open that EXR-based PLD, do some changes and Save. (save time about 70 seconds again)
So from this test i made a conclusion that PLD keeps data in EXR format if PLD was created from EXR source.
Also EXR files draw Histogram in slightly jagged way compare to TIFF, so it is possible to see difference with naked eye.

Small remark. JPEG XL is extremely slow format only when save large images in 100% compression quality (guess 100% mean lossless mode?).
If set compression quality to 99% it works fast.
Also when save to JPEG XL PhotoLine crashes in the end. Bug report has been sent to developers.

If compare to HEIC and other formats JPEG XL seems like best candidate to replace JPEG compression in PLD yet.
It also makes sense to add JPEG XL format in Web Export panel, so user could adjust visual quality quick and easy.

- JPEG XL can do lossless image compression in a way that beats existing formats (in particular PNG) in all ways: it can be faster to encode, produces smaller files, and more features are available (e.g. CMYK, layers, and 32-bit floating point samples). As this is mostly relevant for authoring workflows, not so much for the web delivery use case, I will not dwell on this topic too much more, but it sure is a rather important ‘benefit’ of JPEG XL as a format in general.
- Opposite to HEIC it is more-less universal and open option that don't have strange artificial limitations.
- Visually i can't see difference between heavy processed 16-bit JPEG XL from 16-bit uncompressed source. So high bit depth support is way more important than lossless compression.
- If compression set to 99% or less it works really fast.
- If compression set to 100% or less it works very slow. (bug in decoder or in PhotoLine ?)
- 16-bit JPEG XL compression 98% produce same file size as 16-bit JPEG2000 compression 99%, but compression speed is about 5x faster.
- JPEG XL is pretty new format and seems there are many bugreports in development page. Have no idea if they are critical or not.
- There is no native macOS Finder thumbnails generator, but there is a QuickLook plugin project for macOS Finder thumbnails. Unfortunately it works only with macOS 11+ https://github.com/yllan/JXLook

Try current version. It will.

Probably, you have to save WEBP previously with Photoline 8)

By the way: when will phpBB support WEPB? This would save a lot of space (118k jpeg filesize vs 32 k webp for this image).
