Might be OT, but this blog has some interesting discussions regarding the behavior of colors while image editing.
For example: http://colorcorrection.info/color-scien ... rominance/
This is about the saturation changes observed while brightening or darkening images.
The blog itself:

Hi lutz,( Be aware, the author provides infos that just might give you the idea to purchase his plug-in.)
Heh... I'll take that as a compliment. Thanks.
Obviously the point of those pages is mostly to provide useful information and not to try to ruthlessly advertise products. I apologize as I haven't been adding information very often... but if you have any topics or ideas for further posts, please feel free to let me know by emailing me at glennchan [at colormancer.com
There's also a number of other sites out there with information on similar topics.
http://www.digitaldog.net/ - Some good information on color management
http://www.brucelindbloom.com/ - Bruce Lindbloom's site also has some information on hardcore color science.

Re: OT: Color Correction blog
To add on...
I've released some freeware plugins here:
http://www.free-photoshop-plugins.com/d ... wnload.htm
and just tried them in Photoline and they work! They are completely free (you don't have to sign up for spam or anything like that; no spyware, no adware, nothing) so I hope people find em useful! I will try the mac side of Photoline when I get on my Mac. Plugin support looks great so far and not weird like Paint Shop Pro.

Thanks for coming in on this. The color discussions are intriguing (I never get color right anyway, but I still keep reading!). On OS X.4.11, Mac Mini Intel 1.83 Ghz, and PL32 v.14.5 and 14.9 both the free plug-ins launch, their window comes up looking fine, but any attempt to adjust the scales or even move the window results in PL32 crashing.
Cheers, Geoff

Re: OT: Color Correction blog
Hello Glenn,
your pages make for a very interesting read and thanks for the Tint plugin freebie !!!
Regarding colormancer, I have the impression that in many cases (perhaps even the majority?), people actually are actually expecting the saturation shifts and predominantly the saturation enhancements that go along with the regular Photoshop or PhotoLine contrast adjustments.
Perhaps it is caused by the PS-way being the standard way and everybody being accustomed to it, but perhaps it is somewhat physiological .
Colormancer clearly allowes more control, but so far I have only played with the trial.

Re: OT: Color Correction blog
Sorry about that. The latest versions are up now and should fix that.their window comes up looking fine, but any attempt to adjust the scales or even move the window results in PL32 crashing.
(I have been working on a noise reduction plugin, which will work in Photoline, so that has taken up most of my time so I didn't get around to looking into this until now.)
