sorry I do not understand your question. Which occasion and which preview are you talking about?

When using the cloning or healing tool, for example, the "cursor brush" is a preview of the effect. How do I disable that preview?

The Reparing Brush has no preview. The Copy Brush has an option in the tool options dialog "Preview Copy".
