Mosaic filter

Beitrag von xgipper »

Hi - I want to filter out someone's face in a photo, in the style commonly done in newspapers, but I now only seem to be able to make it appear as if they are wearing some kind of cat mask fancy dress. Any idea what might make a good setting for this please, so it appears more 'pixellated' with square/rectangular blocks'? The face is pretty small in relation to the whole picture. I realise this is a pretty vague question, but can't seem to make it appear very differently and it seems to stay on the 'cell' type effect. Thanks

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I couldn't open the file, perhaps because I'm on an earlier PhotoLine (17.10).

Still on v17.10? Why not update to the latest version? Drastic improvements, and I recall that the Mosaic filter had some quality issues back then which were resolved in v19.

I thought it would all come back to that! So far it's been fine for what I've needed - usually just re-sizing images and making some basic advertising banners, but appreciated it's now out of date and would like to support the product as it's very good, so will try and scrabble around for the funds to update asap!

While PL 20 is definitely worth the upgrade, you should also be able to pixelize the face with PL 17.10. Just use the lasso to select the face, then apply Filter "Quality -> Pixelize" on the selection (assuming that PL 17.10 has "Pixelize"). "Mosaic" will also work when using the right settings, of course.

If you want to work non-destructively, you'll have to duplicate the layer, pixelize the duplicate, and use an initially black layer mask to "paint in" the pixels, just like any filter that you want to apply to only part of an image.

Cheers

Burkhard.
