Action recording: parent a clipping mask to an adjustment layer?

Would anyone know how to record the following in an action:

I have an adjustment layer at the top, and a group layer below the adjustment layer. The group should be added as a layer mask to that adjustment layer.
When I record the steps in an action, I first select the group layer, convert it to Clip (this records correctly), and then drop the group layer on top of the adjustment layer to parent it as a layer mask.

But this last step is not recorded in the action. How do I work around that? I tried various other methods and get the required result recorded in my action, but nothing seems to work so far.

Here is a before-and-after screenshot of the step I need to record in the action:

Put first the group on top of the Adjustment Layer in the Layer stack, then just record and action with Convert Layer to Layer Mask for Previous.

If you need to record placing the group on top, record a Cut, navigate to the top of the layer that is going to be clipped and paste, then perform the convert for Previous.
