"Fill" Vivid Colour Grading technique

Beitrag von Herbert123 »

After watching this PS colour grading technique utilizing the fill slider and the vivid blend mode, I wondered if I could replicate the same effect in PhotoLine. PhotoLine does not include a similar 'fill' slider.

It's quite simple to replicate:
1) create a coloured vector rectangle.
2) load the photo's luminance as a lasso/selection by shift-clicking the photo layer.
3) select the coloured rectangle, and create a layer mask from the mask (selection)
4) select the layer mask, and add a curves adjustment layer. Add a control point in the dead centre of the curve, and then drag the utmost top-right control point to the bottom. Change the interpolation from Spline to Langrange.
5) select the coloured rectangle layer, and change the opacity and colour to your liking. Change the colour Editor to HSV mode for the best control. As is mentioned in the PS tutorial, the colour is often best set to a more neutral tone.

Really nice way to do some nifty quick colour grading. Add another curve adjustment layer to the layer mask to control the overall effect to an even greater extent.

I've attached a sample file. It is tiny, because this forum doesn't allow for larger files to be attached. But it demonstrates how it works.

For example, here I used it with a gradient to add vibrant blue to the top of the image and a warm orange tint at the bottom with a simple colour gradient instead of a solid colour.
