CMYK/spot colour Channels in RGB Document Mode - how?

Post by Herbert123 » Tue 10 Mar 2020 00:35

Help!

I am working on a document with spot colours and CMYK. It has multiple pages, and I'd like to check the Channels how things are rendered to the CMYK and spot channels. Thing is, I forgot to set the document to CMYK intent when I created it, and now I am stuck with RGB channels.

But no matter what I try, I cannot seem to convince the Channels to display CMYK channels. The spot channels are there. But the other colour channels seem fixed to RGB.

Is there a way to inspect the CMYK channels in document mode when the user picked RGB for the document when it was initially created? I cannot switch to image mode, because I work with multiple pages.

I tried the background colour in the document settings. Ideally I would just switch the entire document to CMYK intent, but there doesn't seem to be an option to switch to CMYK after it was created.

The only option I seem to have now is to create a new document with CMYK intent, and then copy over all the pages. But pages themselves cannot be copied to a new document (also a strange omission, btw - I copy pages from one document to another all the time, but that is not directly possible), and that means I first have to create all the pages in the new document, and then copy the content one page after the other to the new document JUST in order to switch to CMYK.

Surely there is a simpler method that just allows me to switch to CMYK intent?

You can assign a CMYK profile to the document. This way it will be a CMYK document.

If you just want to inspect how certain colors will be exported to PDF/X, you can do that with "View > PDF Proof Mode" (set the PDF export mode to PDF/X1a or PDF/X3 first).

Ah, switching to a CMYK profile worked! I initially thought it was some kind of hidden property.

Saved my day! Thank you!
