When using the auto eraser or auto masking tools ... where would I find the tolerance setting ?

Re: Auto Eraser
It's in the tool settings. My settings are just below the tool box, I think that's the default location.
But especially for these 2 tools it's better to ignore that. Better click into the picture, hold and drag and drop to adjust the tolerance

Re: Auto Eraser
Always keep Tool Settings, Layer and Document Attributes panels visible. Here is example of possible layout:

Re: Auto Eraser
I mainly use it to switch to document mode. Only sometimes I check if there are profiles or Exifs that apply to the whole document.

Re: Auto Eraser
Layer Attributes contains settings for active selected layer.
Document Attributes contains global settings.
In Document Attributes you can also switch between Picture Mode and Document Mode.
In Picture Mode all settings are linked to Background layer.
In Document Mode there is no special Background layer so layers like placed in document container. Document Mode is more flexible and advanced way to work. In Document Mode available non destructive Crop, non destructive and more complex Color Management and other interesting things...

Re: Auto Eraser
UI tabs can fit even more tools. For example here is same layout with Documents and Pages lists and Guides presets panels. See more details about UI Layouts in this mini tutorial https://www.pl32.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6786
