Would you pay for the extra coding costs?
Would the rest of the users pay a higher price for the extra coding costs?
Does the rest of the users need the features you request?
Why don't you just use a desktop publishing program for your tasks? There are several on the market, even an open source version (Scribus).
My guess: Only 0.5 % of all PL users would want the features of your list.
Why can't I get curly quotes in PL?

Sadly most of your fonts are commercial ones. The only two non-commercial fonts I found in your list were Bebas Neue and Cabin. And I couldn't replicate the problem with these twoHerbert123 wrote: ↑Sat 16 Nov 2024 22:24Here is a quick video recorded demonstrating that many(!) fonts will not work properly in PhotoLine:Martin Huber wrote: ↑Thu 14 Nov 2024 16:05Again: What fonts? What do I have to do to reproduce this?Herbert123 wrote: ↑Tue 12 Nov 2024 21:01 Or the type family member list is populated with doubles, and it becomes unclear what the difference is between them. Or they don't seem to do anything.
Or I de-select bold or italics, and suddenly the font name turns red - indicating it does not exist. And I have to fix it by selecting another family member.

But I could replicate it with Libre Caslon (from the beginning of this thread) and there the problem no longer happens with our internal version. Maybe "your" problem has been fixed, too.

Hey: I already use Affinity Publisher as I indicated in my previous comment. I already use Xara for light weight DTP. I even have InDesign paid for by my work. And I refuse to use InDesign on principle, you see. Ultimately, I deeply care about the design ecosystem. I routinely train copywriters on design tools to help them get ahead in their career.der_fotograf wrote: ↑Mon 18 Nov 2024 16:33 Would you pay for the extra coding costs?

It's a matter of principle. I really truly fully believe in competition in the market. I think PL is a good product. Hence I am keen to see a fuller textual feature set. Am I wrong to think that the developers believe the same? I don't see how they could have maintained this project for so long without a deep sense of belief.
And I'll put my money where my mouth is. If the developers truly can do it, I'll fund, at least partially, the cost of coding. I'll be able to put up to €500 towards it. Up front. But is that what Martin & Gerhard want? I'd love to hear from them.
I already support with cash inkscape and krita with monthly subscriptions. So far having spent a few hundred pounds on each. And on going.
I bought affinity without any need for it. I bought xara again purely to support it. It just so happens that I love Xara. And now I love PL.
If the developers tell me that I shouldn't wish for more things than what's already on the product, I'll move on to support another project. Graphite.rs for instance is extremely promising.
But may I ask: why the harsh tone? I was being perfectly pleasant, I thought.
Thanks!

Furthermore, I don't think it's "just dtp" projects that suffer from a lack of these features. Here's a non-dtp project that needs those features I just described in my previous posts. PL has all the functions needed to do this except proper typographical controls. Such as default curly quotes. I have to switch back and forth between text editors and pl or use circuitous shortcuts to type text in PL. Then, without real OpenType features, they won't look quite as good.
Imagine having to do this for magazines. Dozens of magazines. Every week. It doesn't work.
So if the developers tell me in no uncertain terms that I shouldn't expect any of these, I'll take your suggestion and walk away.
But until then, I'll make requests.

Really pleased that we now have curly quotes @Martin & @Gerhard
It would be amazing if in the long-term future, we could have Open Type ligature support for Windows (it's already on Mac) and real bullets.
I realise and appreciate that there are more pressing feature requests relevant to photo editing.
Optical kerning is a big ask - I can live without it.
