R/G/B Gamma automatic picker for Levels adjustment

Post by shijan »

I would like to request for R/G/B Gamma automatic picker for Levels adjustment.
Currently Levels can operate with R/G/B Gamma sliders, but don't have automatic gray point picker for them.
Same time Curves have automatic gray picker, but don't have R/G/B Gamma mode.

Guess the simplest way to go could be Alt+Click (or Command+Alt+Click&Drag) for Levels global picker, because that key modifier it is not used there yet:
Levels adjustment picker key modifiers:
Click = Set Pure White for Active Channel.
Shift+Click = Set Pure Black for Active Channel.
Command+Click (or Command+Click&Drag) = Set Pure White for All Channels.
Command+Shift+Click (or Command+Shift+Click&Drag) = Set Pure Black for All Channels.

Automatic Gamma picker required for negative scan film adjustment, because by specification in each film model gammas are shifted to some specified value. Gamma adjustment can't be replaced exactly by Lagrange or Bezier Curves and in some cases difference in color is really huge. Here is nice example scan from other forum.

It also could be very useful to have a color picker in Color Balance adjustment to auto set Midtones. Color Balance Midtones sliders seems like based on Gamma function:
Color Balance Midtones -100 is same as Levels Gamma 0.5
Color Balance Midtones +100 is same as Levels Gamma 2.0

I don't see a reason to add this what you call »a feature«.

We already do have a Color Picker for white/gray balance, automatic selection or with a color picker, plus white point fix and Gamma fix options.
In addition, we already do have the Levels tool in case we should need it. It definitely is better to separate these tools. If you want or need it in one tool, you can make an action for the execution of both tools in sequence.

This tool worked for thousands of images for me, and I guess for others as well. Magazine ads, posters, framed images for exhibitions, you name it.

My conclusion: We don't need your feature. It's nothing new, it's just superfluous.

"We" don't need it? Is it someone with you in the room who also always don't need any new options in PhotoLine? Take your pills and stop spamming in any thread. Do you really believe someone care about your opinion after all your meaningless stupid postings and direct abuse against forum users during last years? As i remember some time ago you proudly report that you will not post here anymore.

White Balance White Point tool it not exactly the same as Levels R/G/B exposure because "Limit" have less recovery range than Output Levels.
White Balance Gray Point + Fix White Point is totally not the same as Levels R/G/B Gamma, it use Bezier curve function.
White Balance it is color managed internally, so it can't operate with original source gamma. White Point always processed in linear gamma. And also due that internal color management it works way slower than Levels.
