grouping layers and saving as .psd

Hi,

Just created a file with grouped layers and saved it as .psd.

Tried to open it in the new pixelmator 2.0 and the groups come in as flattened layers, so no means of independently accessing the member layers of the group.

SO, I thought that pixelmator had a problem importing .psd files that had layer groups. Tested this with a .psd file with grouped layers that was created by photoshop and sent to me... Pixelmator 2.0 had no problem preserving the groups as collections of separate layers (i.e. NOT flattened)... Which leads me to suspect a problem with PL's export of grouped layers to .PSD...

However, I cannot confirm whether PS sees the grouped layers separately as they should be, or flattened as in the case of pixelmator 2.0 (PX 2), because I don't have access to a real PS with which to test it.

Steps...

1) Open new file in PL
2) Create layers and collect into a few groups
3) Save As... .PSD
4) Import resulting file into PS and check that layer groups have not been flattened to single layers

If PS can and PX 2 can't then it looks like being PX 2's problem, but if neither PS nor PX 2 can correctly reassemble layers and their groups then there's an issue with PL's PSD export.

Just tried re-opening the saved .psd (from an original with grouped layers) back into PL... Same problem as PX 2... The groups have become flattened single layers.

I can confirm this. In PS the grouped layers are flattened.

Many people think PSD-Support is some symmetric thing, but one important thing to recognize here is, that there is a big difference between PSD import and PSD export. PL has a very extensive PSD import but is missing many things in export.

One bad consequence of this is, that PSD is not a good format to archive documents when using PhotoLine. I once suggested, that it would be a good thing if it could be possible to embed the necessary PLD info in a PSD so that at least PL alone could reopen the document faithfully. I've a very very big library of photos in Aperture and would like to use PL as my photo editor there - but Aperture doesn't recognize PLD and PSD out of PL are to lossy to be useful.
