SCX tutorials into English?
Hi guys,
Trying to get my head around Photoline I noticed there are some very good tutorials in German by SCX and others. How can I get them in English? Or, if the author(s) can submit an HTML version so Google Translate can do its thing? I spent few hours with Google Translate and few PDF tutorials but it's not right. Not to mention all the images are in German which doesn't help me much either.
PS> Great product. It just needs some more English exposure (pardon the pun).

Re: SCX tutorials into English?
Just what I have been saying. More focus is needed on marketing for an English-speaking market.
By the way, the Photo Walkthrough blog's latest post is called "Wave bye bye to Photoshop." (http://www.photowalkthrough.com/photowa ... oshop.html) One of the responses there gives a nice plug for PhotoLine.

Re: SCX tutorials into English?
I have been across many sites trying to get as much as I can. I noticed the loyal following, yourself included, for a very decent product. But I'm afraid docs are an integral part of the equation. As an english speaking user, I really hoped for a bit more. I don't know much about image manipulation, no PS history etc.. Photoline is my first attempt!
It seems my question is heading no where. Trial and error then, and Google Translate.

There's at least a translation of SCX' first tutorial into English. (In the FAQ section, under Tutorials).TTLExpired hat geschrieben:It seems my question is heading no where. Trial and error then, and Google Translate.
I'll try to make a small comtribution by translating the titles and summaries into English. Hopefully, this makes it easier to at least find the right tutorials, and to put up a wish list for translation/adaption of these tutorials.

A nice job on the "tentative English version." This should be very helpful to potential English-speaking users trying the program.bkh hat geschrieben: There's at least a translation of SCX' first tutorial into English. (In the FAQ section, under Tutorials).

Re: SCX tutorials into English?
Thanks bkh. Certainly helps.
I just wish SCX would agree to submit the tutorials in HTML format. It would make life so much easier!

OK. Not the best of translations. If you have Adobe Acrobat, you can easily go through the process I just tried.
From Acrobat, export as an HTML file.
Open the HTML file in Google Chrome.
Translate the text in Google Chrome.
Save this translated HTML file from Chrome to a new filename.
Obviously the formatting needs fixed in the HTML, which I didn't attempt to do. But all the tuts could be thus done. Once cleaned up, it would be near usable. Having translated screen shots would be the final step after fixing the layout.
Take care, Mike

Re: SCX tutorials into English?
I'm trying translation of #17.
I don't have a PDF editor, so I'm using a different method:
1. Copy the entire PDF file to the clipboard
2. Paste into Google Translate
3. Copy the English translation.
I experimented with Word and Google Documents for the rewrite, but finally settled on Designer Pro 7, which allows easy arrangement of text and graphics. I'm checking the translation as I work through the document, also pasting the graphics as I go. There are syntax problems as usual, and I have found a couple of incorrect translations, but I've been able to solve those problems by pasting single words into the translator and then determining the correct English words.
Once finished laying out the document, I'll try to do some screen captures in PL to get the English titles of the various functions shown in the illustrations. For final output I can do either PDF or HTML. Which would be better? If we archive all of these, would they go on the PL server?
If we're serious about this, we should divide the translation work among a group of volunteers.

Re: SCX tutorials into English?
Awesome. I pretty much started the same thing except some of the PDFs are protected? ie, they come up as silly numbers and googloo boogloo when copied. In saying so though, I think if we manage to translate as much as we can, it will be a great help to English users.
I'm more than happy to assist in the works. So, sign me up guys.

Re: SCX tutorials into English?
Let me know which PDFs are locked...I'll do them first.
Hi Bob--yeah, I was gonna either use PagePlus or Xara. I'll give PP a good ol try and see.
As HTML was mentioned, that is where I went at first. So, Bob, do you want to spearhead the assigning of PDFs so effort is not dup'd?
I would be happy to work on screen shots and do those translations. Personally, I would maybe desire to do the entire publication within PagePlus, bringing in PDFs (it usually imports well).
Take care, Mike

Re: SCX tutorials into English?
From 'Replacing White Sky' it seems they're all protected. I noticed Google now has a new 'translate' service whereby you can translate, rename and share in the cloud. It doesn't, at the moment, support pdf and only up to 1mb.
You guys want me to try 2 and/or 3?

Re: SCX tutorials into English?
Honestly, do you think these Google translations are worth the effort? Maybe I can guess the meaning of http://www.wenzloffandsons.com/temp/pl_ ... s_eng.html because I know PL, but would this be of any help to a beginner? Could be a starting point for a proper translation, though.
In any case, I'd be willing to do some translation work, too (starting from the German version).
Otoh, as far as I understood, the translation of the first tutorial is by SCX himself, so we should definitely ask him about his plans for further translations, and his consent to translate his tutorials (and use his sample images).
Cheers
Burkhard.

Re: SCX tutorials into English?
I guess it would take more time to fix a translated document from google (grammar rules, etc) than write it from zero with the german manual next to.

I pointed him to this thread yesterday, he's fine with it, so he hasn't to do the work himself, and he is not confident of his English anyways.bkh hat geschrieben:Otoh, as far as I understood, the translation of the first tutorial is by SCX himself, so we should definitely ask him about his plans for further translations, and his consent to translate his tutorials (and use his sample images).

Re: SCX tutorials into English?
Desperate measures. It's not the best no, but I've gone as far as staring at the images and counting down the highlights just to move on. Believe me when I say, I would be so happy with a mild translation. Even a cut down version with just the steps.bkh hat geschrieben:Honestly, do you think these Google translations are worth the effort? I'm more than happy to lend a hand anyway I can. SCX tutorials seem to give a very solid base to developing into PL.
