Simple Browse feature in PL 17

The new Simple Browse feature is a great idea, but it seems to need a little more tweaking, at least in the 64-bit version running on Windows 7.

1. The English language help file entry for Simple Browse (and the explanation on the What's New page at the PL website) lacks clarity. Nowhere did I find an explanation of how to start Simple Browse. It's found at View -> Panels -> Simple Browse.

2. The explanation for Simple Browse should be clear in explaining how to change directories -- "Click on the small Triangle Button in the title bar of the browser panel," for example.

3. After locating the panel on a menu, I opened it, finding Simple Browse defaulted to the Windows Documents folder. We're working on pictures here, so it seems to me it should default to the Pictures folder.

4. When Simple Browse is docked at the bottom of the workspace, and it is minimized, we get a blank panel that continues to occupy space. It seems to me better behavior would be for the panel to collapse downward, freeing up more workspace until the maximize button is selected. Perhaps, there should be a clearer explanation that Simple Browse can be docked just like other panels.

A couple of other things I've discovered with Simple Browse...

1. When docked at the bottom of the workspace, there's no scrollbar to move among the images. You can move with the right- and left-arrow keys.

2. When docked at the bottom of the workspace, the right side the Simple Browse panel seems to disappear underneath the space for open panels on the right side of the screen. In the screen cap example, there's no way to see all of the text information underneath the split image on the right side.

Sounds like a good idea except ...

All my pix eligible for processing are in iPhoto. Only processed pix (usually using PL as the external editor) are in other folders.

Makes this feature pretty useless for me.

Defaults to the Document folder in OS X.6.8 also. As you say, it should default to the Pictures folder.

Wouldn't it be better if the simple browser would remember the last folder that has been accessed between sessions?

Also it would be nice if it had an "Import Camera RAW".

Here (also under Mac OS 10.6., it remembers the last folder between sessions, as far as I can see.

Also it would be nice if it had an "Import Camera RAW".

There's a preference for that, under Preferences -> Browse -> Settings, check "Open Digital Camera Raw Data using Import …". This also works for Simple Browse.

Mea culpa! It also works on my laptop under Windows XP. I remembered that it didnt but obviously that resulted from an unclean exit. If I quit the application regularly the last uses path is remembered!

To me this is even better than having the dialog default to whatever directory.

Ok, I guessed I just made a complete idiot of myself. This makes two out of two points from my postings that became obsolete and proved that I didn't properly check before making my post

Anyway, thanks for clarification and pointing those out. It would be perfect if this setting would also be considered when PL is loading an image from the commandline (called from another application).

I don't know about a point-system at the PL-Forum that far but this might be a very nice idea (Franky has two now!!!!!!!!!!!11111 one one eleven )
Actually I don't know a forum where users are more polite and patient than here. Normally any question is welcome...
You only should be careful if you don't get an answer - than you are neither too smart or good for another two points
