Feather Selection

Hi All,

I am new to PhotoLine; having just discovered it a couple of days ago. Impressed enough to have already bought it.

I was going through the tutorial to create a snooker ball. However, I wanted to give it a shadow. So, naturally I created a new layer and created a selection to make it look like a shadow. Then I tried to find a way to create a feathered selection. For those who are familiar with Gimp, you simply use feather selection from the Select menu and it add a requisite number of pixel to blur the selection edge. So now if you fill the selection with say black, you get a nice shadow effect.

So, wondering if anyone can provide an answer to this noobi question. I did a search of the forum and found only 1 mention of feather in a thread from 2007/8 which was part of a wishlist. The English manual does not have the word "feather" in it.

Hi,

all the lasso-tools, the automask and some other have a slider in their tool settings, named "soft edge". This usually does it.

For more special effects you can enable "edit mask". That's one of the batman-buttons below the brush in the toolbar. When enabled, you can filter the selection with any filter.

It's a good idea to have the Tool Settings panel open at all times. Go to Menu Bar > View > Panels > Tool Settings to open it.

You might like to open a few other things too (I have these panels one under the other on the right of my screen).
