Question about Rectangle Lasso tool used for a crop

To include a crop in an Action, PhotoLine 16 requires use of the Rectangle Lasso rather than the Crop tool to perform a crop. The Crop tool allows a preset of the specific dimensions of a crop. However, it appears the small dimension boxes in the lower right corner of the rubberband are the only way to measure the dimensions of your crop using the Rectangle Lasso, and I find it impossible to get a consistent setting with the mouse as you drag the rubberband across the image. The final setting is always off by a few pixels.

Have I missed something here? Is there a way to preset the dimensions of a crop when using the Rectangle Lasso?

Maybe you are better off using the menu command "Form lasso …"? It allows you to specify the position and size of the lasso using numbers.

There's a shortcut to the formlasso: Do a double-click on the lasso-tool.

A moot point now, for the just-released version 16.10 now allows recording the Crop tool as an action. Thanks, guys!

I'm having trouble cropping using PL 17.10 on Mac.

So I have an image, and I want to simply create a rectangular crop of 154px wide by 100 high. In Photoshop I think I used to key in those dimensions, crop a large photo in the ratio to that keyed in, and could then scale the image/layer to precisely those dimensions

I've achieved that in PL too - but can't now re-create it: I click on the cropping tool and key those dimensions into the 'tool settings' palate. Then I drag the cropping tool over my image - but it makes no difference to the rectangle shape that the tool creates, and the dimensions promptly return to zero in the palate. If I hold the shift key down to crop, it simply becomes a square cropping shape.

I have also tried to create a pre-set for 154x100 - but don't understand how I apply that setting; although it is available in the little pre-set drop down, still the settings below for X & Y say zero.

Must be something simple: what am I missing, please?

Anyway after much time playing around I have now managed to achieve what I want using the rectangle lasso tool, but still can't figure out the above in relation to pre-sets and the cropping tool... doesn't seem to work, for me at least.

Maybe it would have been better to start a new thread (since your request was about the crop tool, not the lasso tool).

I think I may have found the problem – if you enter a dimension in the tool settings and drag the selection rectangle directly, the last dimension is ignored by PL. Hitting <return> after the number or clicking into another textbox again helps. Imo, this behaviour is confusing and should be changed.

This can also be reproduced in another way. Drag any selection, then enter the desired dimensions in the tool settings. The changes are only accepted after you hit <return> or click into another textbox.

Make sure that PL has properly accepted (e.g. by hitting <return>) the values before you save/update a preset. Works for me, then.

OK I think it perhaps does use the preset values if you crop and then hit return, but it really isn't obvious: I would expect the preset values to affect the ratio of the cropping selection, and indeed appear in the boxes where you can plug in whatever values you want, if that makes sense. But hey - I managed to get my pics to the size I wanted in the end. Let's hope I can remember the steps next time!
