Huge files?

I am trying to open this file:

A 24gb psb file. Is psb supported in Photoline? And what are Photoline's limits in regards to huge files like these?

The 3,92gb tiff version opens properly, though it does take about 30secs up to a minute.

Does PL cache large files to disk, or is nothing cached, and only physical memory is used (or via the OS's virtual memory)?

Afaik PL uses the virtual memory. That's why the 64Bit-version is needed for such huge files.

I've tried and tried, but I can't seem to get that 24gb file opened in Photoline. It opens in Photoshop (takes 5mins 10secs), and I have been trying to save it in a format that Photoline would understand (Photoshop cs5 only gives me raw, psb and tiff. It craps out on tiff (max 4gb limit), psb does not load in Photoline ("error loading"), and raw is unsupported in Photoline.

Next, I tried to find a Photoshop plugin that would allow me to save this file in a format that Photoline would be able to load. http://www.telegraphics.com.au/sw/browse/File-Formats has some interesting import/export plugins (all of them function in Photoline, which is nice), but no luck so far. None of the formats understand how to save a giant file like this.

It's too bad, because I can open the 4gb tiff file, save it in uncompressed pld format, and it will load in 2 seconds! Saving is also fast - as fast as the hard drive will allow.

So, next I wil try to convert that file with ImageMagick. However my question before I try this, and spend a lot of time testing:

I am sorry, but I have slow internet here and my computer has 8 GByte memory only, so I can't test the psb file.
If you could create a 2-5 GByte psb file that doesn't work in PhotoLine, I could test the import.
RAW format of PS is - I think - raw data, that means the image data without any additional information. PhotoLine has an import for this.
Another format could be png - I didn't test it.

I have created a 5.26gb psb file, but it would take me more than 20 hours to upload it to my server (~60kb/s) - here in Vancouver we get reasonable download speeds, but rather horridly slow upload bandwidth...

Tomorrow I will try to upload the file through my work's server - hopefully that'll be much faster.

of course you should first of all test, if PhotoLine has a problem with the PSB file. Only if there is a problem, it helps to test.
Since PSB files are RLE compressed, the file would have less bytes if you have less colors inside.

I've done some additional tests:
- 24gb psb file "Problem while loading"
- 5.26gb psb file - same error

Then I thought: "perhaps it's the 4gb limit?"
- 3.6gb file: same error
- 1.6gb file: same error
- 800mb: same error
- 50mb: will not load.

So this is not due to the file size. I have uploaded the last file I tested. Could you please have a quick look?

Tried to open with Graphic Converter:
"Sorry, the Photoshop file uses an undocumented version and is currently not supported."

XnView handles this file w/o problems.

thank you for the test file.
I had a look on it.
Since there was no documentation on this file format, PhotoLine has problems to read this newer kind of psb.
I will fix this, please try again with the next beta version of PhotoLine.
