Coloured Brushes?

Long time ago, galaxy far far away I used Deluxe Paint on the Amiga. One thing Deluxe Paint was good at were coloured brushes: select a region, than use it as a brush.

Gimp is also able to do this - but to my amazement nothing else seems to support this simple feature. Photoline seems only to support greyscale/trnasparency values like all the others (including Ph).

Does Photoline support coloured brushes?

I usually create a small layer in the drawing large enough to contain the brush design. I do this by pressing Q for the Layer Tool. Then drag out the size of the layer needed. Draw the brush design. Then drag that layer and drop it onto the brush list. It will be converted to a brush.

Then I delete the layer. The new brush is editable and will will use the active color.

You can also select any portion of a design with any of the selection tools, copy and paste as a new layer. Then drag that layer onto the brush list as mentioned above.

Your choice today.

Please read my original post again: creating a brush is not the issue: the brush system in Photoline does not support full colour brushes. Gimp and Corel Painter do. Granted, Photoshop does not support these either. But they are very handy to paint in textures.

P.S.: in Windows I do not seem to be able to drag a selection into the brush editor to define a new brush. The method I use now is to create a lasso first, and the right-click the brush list.

Probably I didn't understand it right, but that sounds like a stamp to me. With the stamp tool activated select "create from lasso" from the tool settings.

P.S.: in Windows I do not seem to be able to drag a selection into the brush editor to define a new brush. The method I use now is to create a lasso first, and the right-click the brush list.

You have to drag off of the screen first. After that you can either drop as a new layer or drop into the brush list.

Sorry, simple drag and drop the selection one has to not have PL full-screen, drag it off PL, then back to the larger Brush List. Because I use PL full screen most of the time, I just drag it to the brush list on the tool bar once you have activated the brush tool.

Ah, OK. Always tried it with the separate brush list window, and there it seems to be necessary.

Brilliant! Found it. Would have been nice to be able to use my Wacom tablet to control size and/or intensity based on pressure, like the brush tools.

Thanks. And btw, I did not realize until a week ago that there is a full procedural texture editor built-in as well.

Do you have some experience with that? Even after quite some hours I mostly have to rely on trial and error, I don't really know what I'm doing.
