Some texture examples for Hoogo

Beitrag von Herbert123 »

Hey Hoogo,

As promised, here a couple of quick textures I made for you today (well, at night :-). All non-destructive and 90% done with the built-in texture editor. Combine several textures together with color overlay layer effect and/or additional layers. Use layer masks to control the blending. Note that the layer masks I used were also based on procedural textures.

Download here: http://www.estructor.biz/testje/TextureTests.pld (28mb)

The only thing that is unfortunately not editable is the lighting filter - it's destructive (unlike Photoshop). Would be nice if the devs make that one filter also an adjustment layer effect. And I still wish the texture editor would output at least 2048*2048 (or even 4096*4096) instead of the low 1024*1024 resolution (hint hint, wink wink ;-)

Impressive results, somehow tricky to find all the generated textures within. :)

When I had my tries with textures, I more or less played with the sliders and kept the good results. What about you?

And also a quite small PLD, as it contains only few image-layers. There are some clouds converted to raster image. Did you have a good reason to avoid the cloud filter?

I sometimes like to go without image layers, without good reason except saving some bytes. If you like that, too, you can try this to avoid some usual adjustment layers:
-"Layer > vector > fit vector layer"
-select white fill color
-"view > panels > adjustment layer"
-add your adjustment(s) there to the vector.

But you can also convert normal adjustment layers to vector layers, I'm sure this didn't work in earlier versions.

Good tip: coming from Photoshop I tend to forget about vector layers in Photoline - it would save some bytes. I don't recall why I converted some clouds to raster images - sometimes I lose track of time, and just go for it. I do, however, have a general plan of attack before I start anything, so trial and error are (partly) avoided - though a lot of lucky experiments still occur, of course ;-) (like the candy cane texture in the example)

By now I understand the texture generator quite well - its layout is a bit unfortunate: the first basic setting I work with is the one at the bottom (function), and then I decide whether or not to add noise/fractal/turbulence/or nothing to that base. At least, that would be my workflow.

Lol, I once mentioned the same :)
