From 16 to 8 bit conversion

Hello,

while it's easy to convert and assign a color profile to an image, I'cant find a way to transcode a 16 bpc image in an 8 bit per channel one.

Well, it should be possible to save it as a .bmp with 8bpc for being reopened and newly saved in another format but I'd like to know if there'a a more straightforward way to accomplish this task.

I would use the menu item "Layer" -> "Convert Layer Type". Choose RGB-Image from the dropbox. After that one can choose 8-Bit, 16-Bit or 32-Bit.

Nice gimmick: you can use a checkbox to convert all layers at once.
