Backing up Photoline settings

Hello,

I was trying to discover how to back-up/transfer the Photoline settings, e.g., layout, icon type, background color, etc.
The only method I could find mentioned was using the "USB" mode technique (creating a 'Usersetting' folder in Program Files) and having the ability to copy that folder to a new installation. I've not actually tried it but presume this will work.

So, I have two questions:

1) Is that correct? Or, is there another way to back-up/transfer the Photoline settings in a 'normal' (non-USB style) installation?

2) Is there a 'downside' to using the Usersetting folder? I ask because the developers have chosen another settings storage method for regular installations and I assume they have a reason for that (vs defaulting to a Usersettings folder in the Program Files per the USB method).

Where is the UserSettings folder in the normal installation?

I did a bit of forum searching for this subject and....my understanding is limited (I need to translate threads via Google!).

However, as I understand it, in a normal installation, the settings are mainly in the registry (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Computerinsel\PhotoLine), with some also in the "AppData\Roaming\PhotoLine" folder.

But I do not know if there is any method to easily extract them to a new installation, or back them up in a useful way.

It seemed that several people were using the USB method to localize the settings (vs the registry).
That seems easy and straightforward, but I also want to make sure it is the best way to accomplish it, with no potential problem side effects.

If I remember correctly, when I switched from Win98 to Win7/64, PL could not write to the Usersettings-folder. Writing to the program-folder is forbidden for programs by default, and I had to grant the necessary rights manually. Or was that some other folder? Can't remember...

And it's not common anymore to store settings in an ini-file or in the program-folder, there's some appdata-folder hidden somewhere in the endless tree of folders that is common today. I don't see the advantage, maybe for backups.

So after all I use the Usersettings-folder since PL supported the USB-stick-mode, and do fine with it.

I have PL installed to the following folder.

C:\Graphic\PhotoLine

Since there are no problems with folder rights
User Settings folder created.
that's it....

Thanks Hoogo,

I tried the USB mode and found the same thing: initially nothing was appearing in my newly created 'usersetting' folder.

So, clicked on Properties > Security, and give myself (operating on Win7/64 as a 'user', vs 'admin') full permission for the folder, and then on the Advanced tab took Ownership of the folder.
After that the PhotoLine settings were written to the folder.

Perhaps the issue of writing to the folder may be why settings are kept in registry and AppData and not Program Files as a default....folder permissions and the user/admin divide in Win 7 get me quite confused.....

I've moved my Photoline folder from program's to the C drive base (sorry if all my terminology is wrong, I'm a user not a computer guru.)

That seems to let it work like the USB stick method without any permission problems. Thanks for the tip.
