Proportions and sizes for cropping

Am I missing something?

Using the rectangular lasso tool I can set up to crop to a certain ratio.

Using the crop tool I can set up to crop to a certain size.

But I can’t set a size using the lasso tool and I can set a ratio with the crop tool.

Surely it would make sense to be able to do both with both tools.

Or can you do both with both tools and I'm missing something obvious (or hidden).

- open attribute panel (document)
- create a lasso, and change size of lasso by double-clicking the lasso dimensions
- form lasso window pops up with lots of lasso options.

Or:

- create a selection
- double-click the lasso tool
- form lasso dialog pops up.

A bit awkward, though. I would love to see this dialog as a non-modal panel, or part of the lasso tool panel options.

Doesn’t form a ratio for me, Herbert. The numbers are always referring to some measurement -- number of pixels, number of mm, whatever.

Lasso:

Thanks for pointing me towards the Form Lasso dialog, Herbert, I had overlooked it. An easier way to apply it is to set up a keyboard shortcut and go directly to Form Lasso in the Menu Bar > Tool > Lasso > Form Lasso. I've set my short cut as command-option-L.

This is yet another interface oddity in PL. Let’s get down to it -- these two tools should have similar tool panel dialogs. Why sn;t this stuff in the Tool Settings panel?

Forgot to add: type 4 by 3 in the crop tool dimensions, then drag one of the corner points in the view - it will proportionally scale up and down.
Next time you use the crop tool, this proportion is maintained, and you should be able to drag a proportional selection with those settings directly in the view.

At least, it works very well in the latest beta version.

It would be nice to see some of the fragmented options of certain tools be consolidated in the tool settings, or non-model dialogs.
