Print Preview feature request

Beitrag von Jesus James »

Hello,

I have a one suggestion, is it possible/reasonable add a compare view(s) options to the Print Preview? I'd like to also see the picture in original form (without soft proofing) in a side or upper view. I have a quite good printer profiles, but most of the time I need at least boost little saturation and mid tone contrast to better match the original, so a compare view could make things little easier.

And almost right after my posting I noticed, of course , that I can show a duplicate image without soft proofing and Print Preview (soft proofed) side by side in the PhotoLine workspace (Window -> Tile Horizontal/Tile Vertical).

Print image adjustment/correction layers must be added before the Print Preview. You can adjust them, but adding a new layer doesn't seem to work in this kind of setup (a new layer goes always to the duplicate image)?

The new adjustment layer will always go to the active document, so be sure that the original window is foremost. (After "Duplicate Document", PL normally expects you to work with the copy first, so just click in the other window's title bar.)

I'm not sure what you mean by "Print Preview", but if you mean PL's Soft Proof, then your approach probably will not work because PL switches Proof Mode globally, for all windows (hopefully, this will change one day). If you want to see the original image along with the one in Proof Mode, you'll have to export the image as a TIFF/JPEG and have another (colour managed) program display it.

Cheers

Changing the active document didn't work here (PL 18.01), the new layer goes always to the (even inactive) Duplicate Document. And that happens when the "Print Preview" mode is on.

Print Preview (File - Print Preview) and Soft Proof (View -> Proof Mode) are two different things. "Print Preview" doesn't switch proofing on globally.

I also think that Soft Proof (View -> Proof Mode) should be local.

OK, then we're talking about different things. Here on OS X, I don't have File -> Print Preview at all. I have a preview option in the print dialogue, but when that's open, I can't edit PL documents at all.

Maybe somebody else can give some advice.

Sorry, I've should said earlier that here is only a Windows version.

I slightly wonder how this "File -> Print Preview" technically works, it's seems matching better to actual print than "View -> Proof Mode"?
