THAT IS AWESOME! It really was one of those little things I very much missed in Photoline.

Cross off that wish off my list! :-)

Thanks, Hubers!

That new Color to Transparency tool is very, very cool. It can do the same thing as the "unmultiply black" plugin I used before in Photoshop (that did not work in Photoline, unfortunately).

Check this out:
[Original on the left, center: black to transparency, right: identical transparent version with black box in background]

It also works splendidly well with white:

Thanks, Falafel, for the link to the beta. That thread had a bunch of images in it and each time there was a notice saying I don't have the right permissions to see them. What's up with that?

I think these Images can only be seen by selected Users, maybe official betatesters. I cannot see them too.

I guess that you can't see images (and probably can't access downloads) as guests to the beta tester forum. If you are interested in joining the beta tester forum, just write to support@pl32.com. (As you may have noticed, a lot of the discussions are in German.)

A few more features I'd like:
1. Eraser tool -- the right mouse click and drag would paint an "Undo" of the erased area.
2. Flood Fill tool -- the right mouse click would fill with the background colour.

(Using the right mouse button to do a "reverse" of the tool is a great timesaver, for example, with the Brush, Brighten/Darken, etc., and would make the Eraser and Flood Fill behaviours consistent with the other tools.)

3. Repeatedly pressing the hotkey for a tool would cycle through all the tools in its group. For example, repeatedly pressing "B" would cycle through the Painting, Pencil, Chalk and Coal, and back to Painting, etc.

Sounds like a good idea and should be easy to implement (currently, you can paint with the R,G,B channels off and get the erased area back).
When I need this behaviour, then I usually create a layer mask and paint it black to erase and white to unerase.

That's already possible – go to Preferences -> Usage -> Keyboard Layout, then in the middle pane, select "Image Tools -> Paint Tools -> Next Paint Tool" and assign the "B" key to it. Other "stacked" toolbox items also have this. You can have keys to select a tool directly, and a separate key to cycle through the stacked tools.

Cheers

If you have a wacom tablet, set the tool to brush, and as bkh stated, turn on the A channel only. Then use the eraser on the Wacom pen to erase parts of the image, and the normal "pen" to "un-erase" parts that were erased. The Wacom eraser of the pen automatically switches to the eraser tool, and back to the brush tool.

This even works with a mouse (make sure that under Preferences -> Working -> Cursor, you check "Clear with right mouse button"). Then choose the brush tool (A channel only) and erase with the right mouse button and unerase with the left one.

Explain, please. I'm not getting that to work....
bkh hat geschrieben:When I need this behaviour, then I usually create a layer mask and paint it black to erase and white to unerase..
Yeah, I'm trying to get in the habit of always using a layer mask for transparency, but there are times when I'm doing a quick one-off (or I'm just feeling lazy  ) when I'd like to have this feature.

Also, if the previous request I submitted about having an option for the Auto Eraser tool to continuously sample is implemented, that and this "Undo" painting feature would combine to make the Auto Eraser tool very powerful.

Excellent! That's working like a charm. Thanks!
