Text kerning

Hello,

Is there a way to change the kerning of the text in a text layer, to make it wider or narrower? I understand that I could change the text layer to a vector layer and move each letter individually; just hoping there is a more clever way to do it.

You can change the spacing between individual letters – just use the "A\V" tool setting of the text tool:

Kerning itself can only be switched on and off, afaik, although, at least under OS X and depending on the font, there are additional options re. kerning in the "Choose Font" dialogue, look for "Typography" under the sprocket symbol.

Actually, it's CTRL+ALT+Arrow keys on a Mac.

Do you really need Alt? Ctrl should be sufficient.
