What's the purpose of these line styles?

When drawing a vector curve (or freehand line), I notice that there are several of these line styles available:

What is their purpose? If I apply one of them to the drawn line and increase the line width by a lot, I get a thin-to-thick vector line (which is good), but the line becomes straight (which is bad). I wish that the thin-to-thick width would follow the original path so that I could achieve a result like this (done with CorelDraw):

I don't have these line styles here. My line styles are ending with the dotted one.

Can you send us a small document, that uses one of those strange line styles?

OK, I don't know if this PLD file will help if you don't have those line styles -- when I re-open the PLD file, the vector line does not have the line style applied. I have to re-select the strange line style and increase the line width to 64px to get it to appear again.

I can reproduce the appearance here without any problems.

The appearance of the line style is correct: It is a dotted line style with invisible dots and a very strange arrow. The dots are invisible, because the line end caps are set to "butt". The arrow length is 500% of the line width, but the arrow width is only 10%.

But there is still the problem, why these line styles are in your list.

I have ten of these in my line style list even if I start the current beta with an empty PhotoLineSettings folder. (PL 18.40b10/64 bit/OS X 10.9.2).

You are right. Obviously the default line styles are incorrect.

Even as it is, it's an intriguing option that can have some uses:
