Pen and Ink sketch Action

I've modified the previous Pencil sketch action to create something more akin to a Pen and Ink sketch.

The action will pause at the B&W conversion step so you can make any needed adjustments, then it will pause at the Gaussian Blur step so you can fine-tune the resulting lines. Unlike the Pencil sketch, at this step you don't want to have much (if any) grey tonal areas, and this is where you try to eliminate as many spots as possible. It should look something like this:

Then the action will pause at the next few steps for refining. The object is to obtain some smoothing to the line work, so first you'll apply a variable blur. Then you'll apply an Unsharp Mask to get real close to the pen and ink effect.

The final step is where you really create a pen and ink look -- applying a Threshold adjustment to the B&W image. The final result:

This pen and ink drawing is particularly effective when combined with the original colour image. For example, I changed the blend mode of the drawing to "Multiply" and reduced the opacity of the original image to 50% or so. Then I altered the original image with a Hue/Saturation adjustment to increase the saturation, and followed that with a Curves adjustment to boost the contrast and lighten the colours. All that gives an interesting cartoon-like effect:
