PhotoLine works well in DAM

Beitrag von OldRadioGuy »

For enthusiast photographers seeking a true digital asset manager to index and manage their many images, there's at least one DAM on the market which works great with PhotoLine.

PhotoLine can be set as an external editor in IDimager Photo Supreme (http://www.idimager.com/WP/?page_id=20), opening images with a mouse click or hotkey combination.

Photo Supreme does not support PL's PLD file format by default, but PLD can be added in preferences as a New Image Format. Photo Supreme then reads the embedded thumbnail in the PLD file.

Works fine as the external editor in iPhoto on Mac. I use v.8.1.2. I work in JPEG and save back to iPhoto at 100%. I only save n PLD if I want to retain multiple layers and then I save to the job folder while retaining the edited image in JPEG in iPhoto.

iPhoto has the useful feature that you can revert to the original image kf you wish -- all modified images are saved separately.

There's another one -- IMatch5.

IMatch has a nice feature: its "Favorites" panel. You can drag and drop any editor's shortcut to copy that shortcut into the Favorites tab. Then a click will launch PL (or any program) and load the selected image(s).

I've got the FastPictureViewer codec installed in Windows, so I can see the PLD files as thumbnail images in Windows Explorer. IMatch uses the WIC (Windows Imaging Component) codecs installed in the operating system, so IMatch displays PLD images just fine in its folder views.

Since PL uses the same Edit...Options...Extended...Plug-In Modules window for both 32- and 64-bit plugin locations, those four entry fields are quickly used up. There are some plugins who need their directory explicitly listed (looking in sub-directories doesn't work for them). Having 2 or 3 more entry fields would help.
