PL Displays Images Lighter Than Other Apps

Greetings.

I find that images without ICC color profiles are displayed lighter in PL 18.02 than in other image-editing applications.

Take a look at the shadows in the attached screen shot. The image on the left is displayed in PL. The image on the right is an example of what I see in all other graphics programs tested.

I find this difference in all photos tested, color and grayscale, that have no color profile.

Can anyone explain the reason for the difference?

If you are on OS X this might be because of the default profiles provided by OS X. Both, the RGB and the gray profile have a gamma of 1.8.
You can change the default profiles in PhotoLine by using "Preferences > Color Management > Standard".

I have been trying without success to find out what ColorSync in OS 10.9.4 is actually doing with gamma. I understand that Mavericks now treats untagged as sRGB, having gone back and forth from sRGB to monitor several times. What does the Mac OS have to do with PL's treatment of gamma?

OS X offers default profiles for the standard color spaces (RGB, gray, CIE Lab, CMYK), and if the color manangement settings are set to "System", PhotoLine uses this default profiles.

Does that still make sense? Shouldn't PL be shipped using sRGB as the default for untagged RGB files? Most Apple programs seem to handle untagged files that way, even the latest Safari (which didn't use Generic RGB, either)
