Enfuse - this technology would be great in PL

Beitrag von greenmorpher »

Just came across this. A friend uses an Enfuse plug-in for Lightroom with wonderful results for interiors with mixed lighting and external windows.

PTGui has elements of it now.

I have just been testing enfuse in the form of Bracketeer -- a standalone app for Mac using the enfuse technology.

VERY interesting! :D

Hey thanks! I found this open source free GUI for Windows: http://software.bergmark.com/enfuseGUI/Main.html

Good find.

enfuse is also part of Hugin (for Win/Mac/Linux). You can use the command line tool or use it from within Hugin (which will also auto-align your images), in the Stitcher tab. Afaik, for focus stacking, you'll have to change the command line parameters for enfuse – I don't know how well image alignment works in that case, but I guess it's worth a try.

Cheers

Do you (or anyone) have a source for sample images used for focus stacking?

For creating HDR images, Enfuse doesn't do anything that the PL HDR function can't do (along with adjustment layers), but I'd like to test PL's HDR creation with focus stacking.

Yes, I think it can be eeeeeasily done....

I've been testing it a bit - it yields quite impressive results. When I compare with Photoshop's HDR "PRO" merge function, I have to say that Photoshop's result rather falls flat on its face. There is just no comparison: Enfuse does a FAR better job. I tried to get a usable result in Photoshop, and failed to get anything usable, no matter the settings.

I used the sample files mentioned in the other thread in this section of the forum. With Enfuse and Photoline I got a very pleasing looking result in a matter of minutes:

Not in my experience, ken. I have never had a decent image out of the PL HDR function, I am sorry to say. I have always thought it half baked and hvd asked a number of time for more work to be done on it.

Since enfuse is open source, I wonder whether it might be the way to go for PL to improve the HDR function.

Well, out of curiosity I just checked in on the latest update for PTGui.

It is v.10 and …

… it has a new tone mapping algorithm, superior to enfuse!

Oh dear -- anyway, Bracketeer using enfuse will do me for the time being for my regular pix -- it is superior to anything else I have tried.

I was about to pay for the udpate to PTGui when I reflected that I haven't done a panorama for about two years so maybe I don't need it right now! :D
