problem scanning after upgrade to PL32 version 15.50
Hello,
I recently upgraded from version 14 to version 15.50. Unfortunately, I can no longer access the scanner within PhotoLine. If I do File->Import->Select Scanner, it no longer appears. I am still able to scan using the scanning software directly, so I don't think there is any problem with the hardware or the drivers. The scanner is an Epson Perfection V700; my computer is an iMac running Mac OS X 10.5.7. Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: problem scanning after upgrade to PL32 version 15.50
I think this may be related to version 15 being a 64bit application, and version 14 was a 32bit application? Any fix or workaround for this?

Re: problem scanning after upgrade to PL32 version 15.50
I think we are talking about Mac OS X here.
PhotoLine works normally in 64 bit mode on Mac OS X.
If you have a scanner connected to your computer, you will need a 64 bit scanner driver.
If you can't get such a driver you have to force PhotoLine to work in 32 bit mode
To do this, select the PhotoLine bundle in Finder. Then press Cmd-i, you will get the information dialog for PhotoLine. Here you can setup PhotoLine to work in 32 bit mode.
You should flame your scanner manufactorer to build a 64 bit driver!

Re: problem scanning after upgrade to PL32 version 15.50
Hello Gerhard,
I have done what you said. Running PL32 in 32bit mode does seem to work- PhotoLine can access the scanner and scan correctly now.
Is it accurate to say that the 32bit mode has the same functionality and image quality as the 64bit version? Is the only difference is the 32bit version runs a bit slower?
Regards,
maho
PS. I've submitted a request to Epson for 64bit drivers...

it's slower and you can use only 2 GByte of memory.maho hat geschrieben:Is it accurate to say that the 32bit mode has the same functionality and image quality as the 64bit version? Is the only difference is the 32bit version runs a bit slower?
No other differences beside this.
thank you.maho hat geschrieben:PS. I've submitted a request to Epson for 64bit drivers...

Thank you Gerhard!
Just a final update: on 31 August I wrote to EPSON asking for a 64 bit driver, on 1 September the driver was there... amazing!

Re: problem scanning after upgrade to PL32 version 15.50
Hello,
I'm sorry to say, I must re-open this ancient thread.
I just upgraded PhotoLine to version 18.53. When I try File->Import->Select Scanner, my scanner does not appear. However, I can open the EPSON Scan app directly and scan without a problem.
I am running Mac OS X 10.9.3. 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM. My Scanner is an EPSON Perfection V700.
Thanks.

Hi maho,
can you start the application "digital pictures" and try to scan with thist program?
If this works you can use this app directly from PhotoLine

Thanks for your response. I can't find that particular app - is it bundled with Mac OS X or do I need to buy it?gmhofmann hat geschrieben:Hi maho,

Re: problem scanning after upgrade to PL32 version 15.50
Is PhotoLine 15.5 still able to scan with this configuration?maho hat geschrieben:I just upgraded PhotoLine to version 18.53. When I try File->Import->Select Scanner, my scanner does not appear. However, I can open the EPSON Scan app directly and scan without a problem.

I compared the source code of "Select Scanner" of version 15.5 and version 18.5 and found no difference. In fact "Select Scanner" is a quite basic function: We just ask Mac OS X to show a list of the available scanners.
64-bit-TWAIN has always been shaky on Mac OS X, so this might be a problem on the OS side.
I think the correct English name is "Image Capture" and it should be in the Applications folder. And in PhotoLine there is a corresponding menu entry at "File > Import".maho hat geschrieben:I can't find that particular app - is it bundled with Mac OS X or do I need to buy it?gmhofmann hat geschrieben:an you start the application "digital pictures" and try to scan with thist program?
I just tried Image Capture (the application) with my old TWAIN scanner on OS X 10.9.5 and it no longer finds my scanner. I can still scan with PhotoLine in 32-bit-mode by using "Select Scanner" and "Scan". IMO in 10.9 Image Capture no longer works correctly.

Re: problem scanning after upgrade to PL32 version 15.50
Thanks for your response Martin. It might be that I am just the victim of the migration from 32 bit to 64 bit. I will try experimenting with Image Capture and see if I can get it to work.
Keep up the great work on Photoline.

Re: problem scanning after upgrade to PL32 version 15.50
Fwiw, my Epson Perfection 3490 scanner works well via Image Capture – also under OS X 10.9.1 (EDIT: PL 64 bit, of course). Make sure you don't use it at the same time as Epson Scan. (There are two minor points which cause trouble: rotation via Image Capture interface results in crashes, and after minimising and re-opening the Image Capture window, it becomes invisible.)maho hat geschrieben:Thanks for your response Martin. The last hope for all scanners: VueScan (try and buy it from www.hamrick.com)

Re: problem scanning after upgrade to PL32 version 15.50
Well, I am sure, that I could scan with a 64-bit-PhotoLine via Image Capture in the past. I am not sure, if that was on 10.9 or 10.8.maho hat geschrieben:Thanks for your response Martin. It might be that I am just the victim of the migration from 32 bit to 64 bit.
