I think: PL19.00 installation breaks FastPictureViewer codec

Beitrag von photoken »

Win7 x64 SP1
PL 19.00 x64

This is a follow-up report for the problems discussed here:
http://www.pl32.com/forum3/viewtopic.ph ... 981#p34981

With no version of PL installed (or any leftover PL DLLs), a clean installation of the latest version of the FastPictureViewer codec provides previews of PLD files in Windows Explorer as it should: the thumbnails use the PLD image itself as their icon, and selecting a PLD file shows the PLD image in both the bottom info area and the large preview pane.

Installing PL 19.00 breaks that Windows Explorer functionality: the thumbnails use a generic page icon, and no preview is shown in either the info area or the large preview pane.

By opening a command prompt with elevated privileges, I used regsvr32 to un-register the PhotoLineHandlers64.DLL. Then I rebooted. Windows Explorer's PLD handling has been restored: thumbnails, info panel and preview pane all show the PLD image.

Hi,

after installing PL 19.00 and removing the beta the thumbnails for PL-files were gone. I've done some investigation and compared the PhotoLineHandlers64.dll from different betas and PL19.00

I noticed that the creation dates of the dll are different:

PL19.00 is from 15-02-20
PL18.90B12 is from 10-03-10

I've extracted the "never" version from PL18.90B12 via innounp.exe, so I don't have to install the old beta. Then I unregistered the the .dll from PL19.00, removed it. Then I copied the one from PL18.90B12 to /windows/system32/ and registered it manually – and the thumbnails were shown again :D

Maybe it solves your problems too ;)

I have the same problem here on my system, Win7 x64:

After installation of PL 19.00, the codec no longer works for PLD files. Windows Explorer now shows the generic PL icon.

Win7 x64 SP1
PL 19.01 x64

It's better after installing PL 19.01, but there is still a problem:
Although the icons for PLD files use the image as a thumbnail, and the image is shown in the information panel, there is no image in the large preview window in Windows Explorer. Unregistering PhotoLineHandlers64.dll fixes the problem, and PLD images are used in all three places in Windows Explorer -- thumbnails, info panel, and preview window.
