Editing mipmaps in DDS

Beitrag von ZoltanE »

I opened a DDS file and was happy to see all the mipmaps imported. I edited them but when I attempted to save the file I got a popup telling me that the edited mipmaps are not usable and will be regenerated. Is there a work around that?

If mipmaps should be used, all mipmaps have to be present and the size has to be correct.
If not, PhotoLine will give the warning and generate new ones.

If I open a DDS with mipmaps and try to save it without doing anything I get the same warning. I'm using 19.01 64bit.

that's possible.
The DDS documentation says that there have to be mipmaps of every size, but there are programs that don't save it this way. I don't work with DDS, just read the documentation and do what there is.

Good point, the original file was indeed missing the last few levels. So I opened it and saved it right away allowing PhotoLine to regenerate the mips. I closed the file, opened it again, saved it, got the warning.

Then I tried a different way: opened the source artwork, a PNG file. Saved it as DDS with mipmap generation, closed, reopened the file and tried to save it but the warning was there again. I don't seem to find a way to avoid the regeneration step.

I will check it.
Took a 256x256 pixel image. Saved it with mipmaps. Loaded it again - 9 layers.
Saved it and got no warning. Think that's OK.

It looks like that the problem only occurs with non square images, 256x512 or 512x256 resolutions for example.

All my sample images are square.
I think you are right, non square images are not handled correct. I will fix this.
