Using Gray Gamma 2.2 Profile

Am I correct in assuming that if I have Edit->Options->Color Management->Standard->Gray set to Gray Gamma 2.2 that any grayscale image file opened with no tagged profile will be displayed using the GG 2.2 profile? Even though the Document panel reveals ICC profile of "None"? Again, I'm assuming it shows "None" because the input had no profile?
