Req: Object on path

Beitrag von photoken »

PL can do text on a path, and it can do path painting (where a brush is duplicated along a path), but it doesn't have a similar feature for objects.

I'd like to have the ability to repeat a selected object (vector shape or image) along a path.

The controls would include:
  1. Number of repetitions.
  2. Distance between each repeated object.
  3. Object rotation for each repetition.
  4. Offset from the path.
Ken
Yes, I think it can be eeeeeasily done....

Yep, that's needed.

yes, and it can insert objects in text. This way you can have images and vector graphics on path.

I'll have a look at this later today, but my request for a separate "Object on Path" function still stands:
  1. Adding a layer of abstraction (the text object and its text on path function) makes the process more tedious, error-prone and difficult to preview as the parameters are changed.
  2. Objects on a Path have different requirements than does text on a path. Specifically, the ability to directly specify the number of repetitions, their spacing, and being able to vary their size along the path are commonly done to objects, but not to text.

I would go one step further, and I would love to see an non-destructive object duplicator which includes a path option, as well as controls for:
- number of objects per row and column (array);
- rotation of objects;
- x and y offset of objects (distance)
- x and y scale of objects
- opacity, scale, fill, stroke thickness variation across the duplicated objects (for example, start with opacity 0, end with 100% opaque);
- formula option: for example, sin(x) would put all x duplicated object in a sine wave shape;
- path control, including option to use the path variable width to control the aforementioned settings;
- randomness parameter for the above options

And allow these duplicators to be stacked, as well as allow any other layer to be added as a child 8)

The creative possibilities would be endless.

A bit like this:

Wow! That would be amazing. Of course, some of those features would need to be disabled if the Object is an image, but I get what you're saying.

Just imagine if the duplicated object on a path were a virtual copy. Simply changing the fill/line of the original would instantly update all the duplicated objects. Combine all these requested Object on Path features with the request for an on-demand CAD-like cursor and PL's precision drawing tools would be stunning....
