Question about High Pass

If you're looking for a "one-stop shopping" Clarity function in PL, try using the Sharpen adjustment in Lab mode on the "L" (Lightness) channel only. Large "Size" values and small "Intensity" values will do it. For example, these settings are a good starting point for a 1600px x 1200px image:

Hi Ken. First off. If I open a file/photo and decide I want/need clarity so I go up to Layer/New Adjustment Layer. Select HP. That brings up the grey layer. At that point how do I change the blend mode without hitting OK and closing the HP layer? I see no way of changing the blend mode until it is closed. At that point I can go back and make changes just fine.

I'm on the road for a few months so I don't get a lot of time to experiment.

Thanks Ken. And that's my point. While it may work it's an awkward way of going about it. Thus the initial settings in HP have to be a best guess. (No two photos are the same). Then back to Modify Adjustment Layer.
It takes less clicks to open the external program, (PSP in my case), do the adjustment there and return. Thankfully PL makes that easy. So I'm happy that I can get my results. Just would like to see a similar feature in PL.

As a couple of us have pointed out, it's valuable to see the gray image. I can tell how much to adjust the Size value by watching the effect on the details in that gray image. I rarely, if ever, need to adjust the Size value afterwards.

But, go with whatever you feel comfortable with. In PL, the HP layer is one option for "Clarity", and the Sharpen adjustment I mentioned is another.

Just would like to see a similar feature in PL.

If you use Paul's action and follow my 2nd tipp, it's just one klick on the action to build the layer and change the blend mode. Then use the Adjustment Layer-Panel instead of the HP-Window and you can zoom in and out, move around in the picture, change the blend mode, etc. AND adjust the slides without having to open or close the window. Everything in real time. (You could even build several actions with different pre-settings for different image sizes or motives to speed up your workflow. These actions - by the way - can also be used for batch converting, if you have a series of similar motives.)
