Calculate Area of a Vector Curve

Hey guys,

I have a somewhat unusual question. Let's suppose I create a Vector shape using the Free Lasso- it is composed of line segments, so it forms a polygon. What I would like to know is, what is the *Area* of this shape? In theory, it would be easy to convert the vector shape to triangles, measure the area of each triangle using Heron's formula, and add it up.

The purpose of this is (approximately) measure the square meters of a floor plan someone sent me.

The Measurement Tool does that. It's at the same location as the Magnifier and the Moving Hand.

Just make the vector layer the active layer and press "Calculate Area".
