Curves - create anchor point regression? Or deprecated?

Beitrag von pixel8tor »

If I remember correctly, when I used to clicked on an image to place an anchor point on the curve, the point would remain selected, and it was easy to make presion adjustments with the arrow keys. But now, and I'm not sure when this changed, when I click on an image, the anckor point is created, but when I release the mouse button the point gets deselected. So now it's not as easy to see the new point, and you have to find and select it to make keyboard adjustments. Can anyone else confirm this behavior? Or is my memory faulty? If this is a regression maybe the Hubers can fix it. If it's deprecated, please reconsider, as it is now it can be confusing if there are already several anchor points.

Thanks

I don't remember how it worked earlier versions, but i agree that it logical to automatically activate newly created point in Curves.

P.S. in Curves adjustment it is possible to navigate between active points using Numpad [ - ] and [ + ] keys. This really helps if you have a lot of points or just don't want to touch points by mouse.

Just discovered that Command+Click (Ctrl+Click on Windows OS) creates a point and activates it. I will add this info to Hidden Hotkeys in Levels, Curves & Onter Adjustments thread viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6981

Thanks for reminding me about the [+] and [-] keys for selecting different anchor points. But currently if no point is selected, pressing those keys doesn't select any anchor points, it just enlarges or shrinks the image view. So you still need to select a point first. In fact you can't even use the [TAB] key to get to the curves area. That needs fixing. And when the curves area is selected maybe the origin point(0,0) should be automatically selected.

You're right that holding down Cmd/Ctrl key adds an anchor and keeps it selected. I'm not sure why it's necessary to hold down a modifier key for this. Shouldn't a normal mouse click do this without the modifier? Currently no modifier creates new anchor but it is not selected. Also, using the Alt modifier creates three anchor points, one per color channel, and if one of those channels is currently displayed, the new anchor is selected. Which is *not* what Photoline help says. Quote, "Picking a color in the document window or the dialog preview will create a corresponding point in the curve. Dragging edits the newly inserted point. Holding Ctrl (Windows) or Command (macOS) will create a new point in the curves of all color channels." So the way it is now, *is* definitely a regression. Hopefully the Hubers can return it to the way it is in the documentation.

Normal mouse click - creates/adds a new anchor point, selected
Cmd/Ctrl mouse click - creates/adds a new anchor points, one per color channel, selected

It would also be a great improvement if somehow Photoline indicated which triplet anchors belong to which. Maybe put a small number next to anchors created with the Cmd/Ctrl modifier. Does that make sense?
