Help with gradient

Cannot add gradient to selected area .

Looks good to me. What happens if you try to add the gradient?
Click on the startpoint in the picture and hold button, then drag, then release at the endpoint.

The green squares and pink circle are only shown when the layer tool is active.

I had not continued when I lost selection ... thought something was messed up.

Worked well for me yesterday.

Today ... nothing showing again when I drag across my image and cannot figure what
I'M doing wrong.

Does it matter if I'm on a document or an image ?

Gradients can be drawn on raster images.
If you have a document with a raster image on it, no problem.
If there is an empty document or text or vector layer, you can not use the tool and get a forbidden cursor.
