Text/Serial Document not working

Beitrag von maho »

I am trying to use Layout > Text > Serial Document, and it no longer seems to work. PL seems to import the data from the CSV file correctly, listing the data and the variable names. When I click Create Serial Document, PL creates one new page per line in the CSV file, but it does not substitute the value of the variables into the document.

Document here. CSV here.

I'm currently on PL 25.50, under MacOS. I know that this feature used to work, about a year ago. I'm going a bit crazy over this.

This feature works without any problems in PhotoLine 25.50 here on Windows.
Here are a few tips for using it:
When you open the CSV file, you must enter the correct delimiter:
serial1.png
Then you can use the “Set” function to import the CSV entry into the document:
serial2.png
Now you can create the document and you will get a multipage document.

I am sorry Gerhard, I tried multiple times again, and I am unable to get it to work. A question: what is the proper delimiter that should appear around the variable name in the PLD text layer? EG is it BallotNumber, "BallotNumber", <BallotNumber>, {{BallotNumber}}?

I'm going to post the actual document and CSV file I am working with.

Here is the problem I see. PL creating a multi-page document and is inserting data, but it is not removing the variable name. It is also having trouble with right-justified text: the new inserted data is off the edge of the text box.

PLD file

CSV file

You should use the "set" button beside the variable names. It should set the correct "form" for the variables.
Place the text cursor in your document and press "Set".

I'm sorry, I tried Set and it doesn't work properly. If it's not too much bother Gerhard, please try it yourself, and you will see what I mean.

OK, I think I finally understand what you are saying.

1) In the PLD text layer, DO NOT include the variable name at all. Instead, place the cursor in the text layer where you want the variable to appear.

2) Open Layout->Text->Serial Document

3) Open the CSV file.

4) Under Data Fields, select the variable you want, then click Set.

5) This INSERTS the variable at that point in your text layer, with unusual quote marks, like this. «BallotNumber»

6) Click Create Serial Document

Hello Gerhard,

This feature does not work with text variables. The Data Fields are all mushed together, instead of in separate rows.

The CSV file is here.

Spent about an hour trying to get it to work... far more time than it would have taken to do it manually. :(

Please note, the additional features to set the delimiter and the text encoding do not appear under MacOSX.

macOS per default hides the options in the Open dialog. You have to press the Options button at the bottom of the Open dialog to show the options.

Aside from that, it works fine here.
