(If you use "Save a PLD file" in Preferences -> File -> Save Options, make sure to move it away first before opening the PSD in PL, or use "Export" instead of "Save as". Other programs may embed their native format in the export format, not sure about PSP.)For clarity, I normally use "Adaptive Soften" with a negative intensity. By lowering the threshold, you can control halos at sharp edges very well while still enhancing detail contrast.
